EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT!

On Thursday November 2 the FSU Philosophy and Education Departments, in concert with an organization called the Center for Inquiry are hosting The Great Debate, Does God Exist? at the Tallahassee Civic Center.

Arguing the pro side will be professor Richard Swinburne of Oxford University in England, and widely known as one of the ablest philosophical proponents of God’s existence alive today

Arguing the con side will be R. Joseph Hoffman, scholar in the development of Early Christianity, and lately of the Center for Inquiry in Amherst, New York.

This is not an official InterVarsity or Graduate Christian Fellowship event, but we are encouraging everyone to both for the opportunity to witness and dialogue, and to hear a scholar of Dr. Swinburne’s caliber.

You can read the official debate here (assuming you have Adobe Reader): http://www.fsu.edu/~philo/Swinburne-Hoffmann%20Debate.pdf. We’ll be posting more on this event (there may be a group of us who go together) in the next week.

EVENTS THIS WEEKEND

FRIDAY-SUNDAY

This weekend is the FSU music department Flute Summit. Grad Fellowship's own Ellen Johnson is making her conducting debut on Friday as part of the program. More information here: http://www.music.fsu.edu/pr/festival.htm. The Flute Summit features performance and a lot of cultural history on flute performance from many cultures. Some of the seminars do have some new-age overtones so if you go to those you will want to exercise some discernment spiritually speaking. The event lasts from Friday to Sunday and is free to FSU students and faculty.

Saturday -- 7 PM Screwtape Letters group at Samantha & Wade's house, 1509 Hilltop Drive. If you are coming please e-mail jwoodham@gfmse.org. We need to plan for food/refreshments. We will be discussing the second of Screwtape's letters to Wormwood. See also the the group blog www.screwtape-letters.blogspot.com
